#1. PROVIDE THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT.

One of the highlights of this system is the use of the state of the art, patented float operation valve from Welbourne Innovations. The Rescue Deck® System, plus utilizing this valve showed an 18.8% improvement in FE and 3.5% lower mortality over the major competitor. These results were compiled from an independent farm on nearly 3,000 pigs reared in milk decks.

 #2. USE A QUALITY MILK REPLACER.

Not all pig milk replacer is the same. Careful consideration needs to be paid to mixing characteristics, palatability, consistency of ingredients, and quality control standards from your supplier. Remember this is the pig’s sole source of nutrition at a point in his life that he is most challenged. Contact us for recommendations on quality milk replacers.

 #3. KEEP THE SYSTEM CLEAN.

This can be accomplished easily if the protocols for sanitation are followed without compromise. This is not a difficult or time consuming process but must be completed on a timely basis.

 #4. SELECT THE RIGHT PIGS.

If you select pigs that are challenged due to limitations on nutrition, then you are on the right track. Do not select pigs that are challenged due to injury, health, or physical defects.

 #5. GET THE PIGS STARTED CORRECTLY.

It is not natural for these small challenged pigs to drink from a milk cup. Even with a highly palatable milk replacer it does require a little gentle and patient exposure to the milk cup at the time of placement so they will start effectively.
